RODEZ (FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) – Japan beat Turkey 80-60 in the Rodez Amphitheatre and improved to 2-1 in Group A.
The Japanese duo of Moeko Nagaoka and Yuki Miyazawa combined for 37 points and 21 rebounds as Hayashi Shinichiro secured their second win in three games to inch closer to the quarter-finals.
The game was close in the first-half with Turkey trailing by three, 24-21, at the end of the first quarter and still within distance at the break, 46-36.
Japan used their quickness and vivacity to get to the basket and also shot well from range, hitting seven of 14 three-point attempts.
And on a night when they shot 47 percent from the field, the Japanese did not allow the Turks to get back in the game, using a 15-5 spurt in the third quarter to blow the game wide open and head into the final frame with a 65-47 cushion and the fourth quarter was a formality.
Quotes
Shinichiro Hayashi (Japan head coach): “We got what we wanted; we played our style. We were better in rebounding and we got out on the fastbreak. We were good in defense, better than in our previous games.”
Hasan Firat Okul (Turkish coach): "The Japanese played very well outside and inside. They made 43 percent of their three points shots."
